Cheap Lead Wire Source
I recently picked up some lead wire from Nick over at Nielson Specialty Ammo (NSA). His price is great at $3.31 per pound (for 25 pounds) shipped on a spool (50 pound spools run about $2.97/pound shipped). It is top quality wire for all your swaging needs. He has wire ranging in size from .166 to .470.
I figured I’d share this because I never did like paying over $5.50 per pound from Corbin.

That's not bad. On par with Hawk Bullets, 45 pounds on a spool for $135 + $15 for S/H
-
Hawk Bullet’s price is actually for 40 pounds and it’s $135 + $17 for shipping.
-
Thank you. There is always a need for more vendor sources.
-
No problem! Nick is an awesome guy to deal with.

Seafab Metals in Casa Grande, AZ. Will make wire any size you order. I get it on 25lb spools for $2.87 per pound. I pick it up since they are only about an hour away. Just bought 400lb, 100lb each in 4 different sizes.

You guys are killing me with these prices!
I can get lead wire (.994 Pb) in Germany, but it runs 55-65 Euros for 11 pounds (5 kilos), depending on wire diameter.
Still worth doing, though. Glad to find other swagers here online!

A first post! Welcome aboard, Doc. The Castboolits Form is a good place to be.

Could the cores be cast instead of buying wire and cutting and pointing it?
-
Yes. People do it all the time. Casting cores is extremely common. Some guys don’t want to mess with hot lead. Just use soft lead.
-
Thanks, very much I do not know about casting and swaging bullets. I visit Accurate Shooter, and there are many bench rest shooters, many buy already made cores from a guy named Charlie Hood. He says when he seats his core on his own bullets his wife does a better job than he does, he says she has a better feel for it than he.

Years ago, I met a machinest/bench rest shooter who made his own jacketed 22 cal bullets using 22 rimfire brass. He of course made everything, but he got his lead core by pouring onto a thick steel block he had milled grooves in, and after cooling overnight, he sheared the excess with another steel block!
He helped me get the job finished I was working on, so the next trip to that town, I took him 100# of pure lead I had cast into 1# ingots.

My dream was to buy Master Caster, add automation and let it cast cores from a single cavity mold. I bet it would produce very consistent cores. It would save so much time not having to swage your cores. But with Master Caster going out of business that is unlikely this will happen :(
