I had a pound of Winchester 748 given to me today. I primarily reload for my Krags using 311299 and 311284. I also reload for an 03 Springfield and trapdoors.
Anyone use this powder?

Back in those dark, dismal days when I was addicted to the bangin' and clangin' steel critters (IHMSA) with JBs, I burned a considerable amount of WW748 in both 7BR Rem (XP-100) and 7TCU (10" TC Contender) but, alas, I can't recall ever shooting it in anything else. Burn rate, though, appears about halfway between 4895 and 4064 so it should work in your '06.

I've used a lot of it in .223 and .308. It might be a little fast for the 30-06 except for the lighter -150 gr and under bullets.
its a great powder for .223 I dont know how good it would be reduced for cast boolits but it does an ok job in .223
Mark,
I use it mostly w/ jacketed bullets in .223 Rem., .308 and 30/30 Win.
The NRA posted some data for this powder in .30-06 (J-word) Garand data some time back. I've burned a lot of it in .223, .308, and .30-30 with J-word stuff. I would expect there to be better powders for reduced or cast loads. Hodgdon does list data for it with 110, 125, and 150 grain J-word bullets in .30-06. They don't list data for that powder and .30-40 Krag or .45-70.

I just loaded some 358 win with a 200 gr rcbs hp
and a case full of w-748
it works fine for my rifle
Hit em'hard
hit em'often
I use it in my 222 and in some 30-30 loads................Terry
Great powder used a lot of it in .223, .308, .30-30. Its killed a lot of deer, groundhogs, and crows.

I also still have a pound on the shelf , I used to load it in the 308 with jacketed bullets with weights from 110 to 165 and all would group at 3/4 inch at 100 yards with WW748 powder. I sold the Remington model 600 rifle years ago ,should of kept it !
.308, .223, and 7x30 Waters all with JB's. Excellant powder.
I don't know of any other rifle powder that is as versatile as W-748. I have 748 load data for everything from .17 Mach IV to .460 Van Horn.

It's all I have ever burned under jacketed in my .223 Rem. Nice powder. My .303 Pygmy likes it under a 220gr cast boolit also at 100% density.

I have found it VERY good in the 0.308 with Jacketed 125, 150 and 180 gr all at about 90% of max loading density
Personal favorite in .30-30 and .45-70. 57 gr under any 405 boolit/bullet is very accurate
in my GG, at about 1750 fps and this is reported to be a Trapdoor pressure load. I'd think
it would perform well for medium wt boolits in the '06.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.
The best powder bar none for the 308 Win.

If I rembember correctly W760 & H414 are same powder.
When I first started loading my own, Winchester 748 and IMR 3031 were the first powders I tried. Now, some 40 years later, I'm still using both. I've used 748 in 30-30 (the first caliber I ever loaded for), 35 Remington, 30-06, 308 Winchester, and a few others. I've used a bunch of other powders, too--always something quoted in published loads. I've found 748 to produce very accurate loads, but the biggest thing that attracts me to it these days is that it meters through the powder measures so smoothly, and that makes for consistency.
