    Encore Muzzleloader 26" vs. 28" barrel--Any benefits?

I am looking at basically the identical encore barrel in 26" and 28" barrels. Both are fluted, stainless, weather shield, the new speed breach system. Is there an optimal length for the muzzle loader barrel? Right now I have a 28" winchester super x muzzle loader and when I got it the guys said 28" is the best for inline muzzle loaders.

Can anyone give me any pro's or con's of the 2 barrel lengths?

    Thanks.

Did they give you an actual reason why 28" might be optimal or was it just a selling point? If I were you I would check Mike Bellm's website and see what he has to say on the matter.

I don't recall a reason. I just remember them saying 28" was the best. I think a lot of Muzzleloaders have a 28" barrel but don't quote me on that.

What brand of blackpowder? What brand of blackpowder substitute?

It could make a real difference!

For the cheap, coarser grade of blackpowder/substitutes, I think the longer barrel would be best.

I will by using pyrodex pellets. 777. so with that you think a longer barrel would be best?

    Thanks.

    I'd go 28".
In a single shot, you'll never notice the extra 2" length because they're short already.
I suspect it'll put a touch more weight out on the forend for shooting offhand or over a rest.
You'll gain a little speed (the deer will never notice).
You'll be 2" closer to your target every time!!!

On the Encore you loose about an inch of rifling at the muzzle for the QLA and the speed-breach plug eats up over an inch at the breach end. So your 28" is really only 26".

I don't think it matters. Get the one that you like and that handles/balances the best for you.

FWIW Bergara barrels are often less expensive than T/C barrels and of very good quality. I just got this one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/617...tainless-steel but haven't shot it yet.
