What do I need to put gas checks on?

OK, I finally got the lead and can melt, etc. Anyway, right now I have a lee mold for the 458 diameter with 340 gr. flatnose. It's a tumble lube so I don't need to worry about that. I got the 457 sizer from lee but my question is:

What do I need to attach the gas checks on the bullets? Where can I find them and what gas checks do you recommend? I plan on using it on an AR 15 chambered in 458 socom.

Your fingers and maybe a small hammer to tap with. I put them on and press the bullet down onto the bench to seat them, then through the lubsizer to crimp them. Get Gator checks from Blammer on this site, or Hornaday from your favorite supplier.

When using the Lee sizer I like to put the gas check on with my fingers and insert the bullet bottom first into the sizer as long as it has a flat nose. I also polished the starting bevel on the sizer abit because it would shear aluminum GCs otherwise. Good luck!

all i use is my fingers. Lyman makes a seater tool for the 450,4500 On the 45 I just put the check on run it through the sizer its set to go. Same when I swage a boolit put the check the internal punch of the die put my slug of lead (core) on top of the gas check and squeeze it all together. BuckShot makes a seating tool (online vender) IMO its really not a heavy proposition. put the check on and run the checked boolit through your sizing die its going to be seated. If you try to pull it off I am sure you will be successful. But when fired normally its going to be seated even tighter. Although unless I am mistaken it used to be considered beneficial if the gas check was shed at the muzzle. Dont know if there is any validity to that or not but supposedly when the boolit reaches the muzzle its job has been completed.

The lee 340 .458 RNFP does NOT take gas checks. In other words it's not designed to take gas checks. Can't be done with normal copper gas checks.

I have two bullets that I put gas checks on. I have had no problems just pushing them through my Lee sizer; none fall off and they are on straight. Hold them in place and run them through...
