    What is this ?

At an auction, one box that I bought had various forms of Lead and Lead alloys,
a RCBS thermometer, beeswax, a coffee can of cast boolits, a Lyman catalog,
    and this steel part???
what is it and what would it be used for in regards to casting ?
the shaft portion measures 0.590" in Dia.

    Not a gun part

Not a gun part or reloading part, I'm not a mechanic but the thing looks to be a drop forged piece for a Volkswagen (VW) maybe a suspension part, torsion arm, something like that.

Thats a Volkswagen Type I (Air Cooled Bug), transmission shift lever hockey stick, from chassis # 428156, to # 2 528667

    http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/De...?ID=111307541A

Sticks out of the transmission nose cone and hooks to the shifter linkage.

Now that you know what it is sell it on e-bay to someone who needs one and use the money to buy something you can actually use for casting or reloading.

Funny you mention that. I have a relative that has an OLD Beattle, he test drove the new one, broke it and told the dealer "I will just keep my old one thank you".
