    Carried my CZ-527 7.62

For a walk in the woods this A.M.,the opening day of deer season. It was 44* and it had rained some yesterday so, a wonderful morning for a hunt. Several flocks of geese flew over honking and carrying on and I knew without doubt that hunting season had arrived! Something about hearing wild geese that makes the primitive nature come alive in me.
I had decided that only a buck would be taken and saw just one doe that the wind was making kinda spooky. Returning back to my truck, I saw an object at the border of a pasture and the wood line lying down in the sunshine. A quick look through my binocs and I saw it was a coyote. I put the sneak on him and closed to within 30 yards at which time I sent a flat nosed 165 grain AC/WW on the way. One shot in the head and I had a dead coyote. I'll try to post a pic:

    Good deal ......

These coyotes are everywhere these days. They're infesting SC. I counted 7 dead road kills on I-26 weeks ago.

Anytime someone whacks one of these nasty devastating animals, its a good day.

One down, many to go! Keep up the good work. You just saved several deer, turkey, and other game.

Good hunting and how do you like that rifle? I've been thinking of getting that exact same model but I don't know anyone with one.

I have one of those. Those are nice little rifles, I have been trying to get someone to make a receiver sight for them. The stock has enough drop to work well with a receiver sight, and would make a very light weight rig. Since the top is flat, maybe a sight for a Marlin would work. They will also stabilize very heavy bullets at subsonic velocities. I have shot Sierra 220 grain Matchkings in mine with excellent accuracy

GOOD STALKING SKILLS ......... when you can sneak up on a "hunter" of extradornary skills ...... that's a very good day indeed!!!!

I know my 527 in .223 sure hits the spot when I do my part!!

    As for a peep sight:

    http://www.skinnersights.com/cz_rifles_24.html

They list a 527 peep sight as a prototype ........ maybe some constructive "bugging" will gain you what you seek!!

That lil rifle brought back fond memories of my BRNO Hornet. It had double set triggers but otherwise was a dead ringer. Well done on the coyote.

If we can get the coyotes back under control, we'd probably see our small game and gamebird populations start to rebound as well. I jumped two in the woods last week but was not armed to properly take them out (257 Roberts downloaded to 22LR velocity for squirrel hunting).

Thanks fellas, I don't have much love for them or their larger cousins and will drop the hammer at every opportunity.

Mike60, Thanks, and the rifle is a favorite which is highly recommended. IMHO, it may just be the best rimless .30 cal. round for cast boolits. No filler needed because the case is full of powder and will launch my 165 grain Flat Nose over 1900 fps with very good accuracy. It also does quite well with the 311359 and a pinch of Unique for small game/plinking.

softpoint, The heaviest I've shot in mine has been the 311407 but, I didn't pursue it because my 165 grain mold arrived.

Superfly, Yes it is and you do!

Three44s, Thanks for the heads up on the receiver sight! Now I'll have to wait until they get it in production.

JeffinNZ, I just got another 527 chambered for the Hornet but, haven't had time to use it much and I do like the single set trigger very much.

If you don't mind me asking what do you size your boolits at?

    Thanks,

They drop from the mold at .3145" and I run them through a .314" die to seat checks and lube.

I have one of these, and plan to buy another in the same caliber. They shoot cheap ammo too well, and my hand loads are awsome.

I run a Saeco 185gr bullet in my CZ527. Gas Checked at 1850 fps. Holds 2 inches at 100 yrds. Have not killed anything with it ... yet. But I am sure it will do for hogs and such if I ever get the chance.
