Been looking for walnut media for cleaning cases in the Tumbler. They have 5 grits:
Extra Fine 40/60 mesh
Fine 20/40 mesh
Medium 12/20 mesh
Coarse 8/12 mesh
Extra Coarse 4/6 mesh
What would be best?
Thanks, Jon

I have read the crushed walnut they sell in pet stores works fine, and is a lot cheaper than the cleaning media sold for case cleaning. Have not tried it, yet.
Have mercy.
A haw, haw, haw, haw, a haw.
A haw, haw, haw
12/20 is the stuff you want.
Quick edit to correct the mesh and add the pic...
i bought the walnut at the pet store & added some flitz media additive & itll even cut the carbon off of rifle necks in 2 hrs .
i deprime when sizing pistol so i dont have to clear flash holes !!!
then polish rifle after sizing in corn cobbb then clear holes
i just ask for the 1/8 size .

I buy the pet store bird bedding and add a table spoon of Mother's Mag Polish, I buy at the auto parts store. I have been using this for several years now, with total satisfaction.
Pet store Lizard Litter works fine. Is cheaper than most sources that require shipping.
I dont know the grit of the pet store stuff but it's sold as "lizard litter" in 10# bags at $4.99. Compare to Midway's price of $14.49 for 5# jugs. I've tried both and have been using the lizard litter for three years now with good results.
I use the pet store stuff but it gets stuck in the flash holes. Any way around this?
sknhgy, why don't you just resize and deprime after cleaning. The decap pin pushes the media out then.
when I clean my brass w/o primers and after I tumble it that is when I do my inspection of the brass to see if I have any bad brass while I do that I have a ice pick that I have ground the tip down so it will fit threw the flash hole I push it threw the neck of the case and any thing in the flash hole is pushed out 44Woody
If the brass is dirty I like to give a short tumble before sizing, especially if the case requires a steel rather than carbide die. Saves scratching the die. Then tumble to polish and remove case lube. Like Woody punching out the walnut in the flash holes is just part of a thorough case inspection, and every case gets examined.

I use very coarse, probably 8/12. The beauty of it is that, using a stainless screen as a sieve, you can wash walnut any number to times. I've used the same batch commercially for 10 years and it only gets better with time. Also washing gets rid of those small particles that get caught in places you don't want them, such as primer holes.
The walnut grit I like best is the size I get in the Wal-mart pet area. The price is right. I agree with others on the 1/8 corn cob. It should run about $1/pound at a feed store in a 20 lb. bag. I polish with primers in so media in flash holes isn't a problem.
Does Walmart still sell it? I was at a Super Wallmart a few days ago and didn't see any. I did however find an abrasives shop awhile back and get 50lb sacks of Walnut 12/20 for $17. I'm pretty happy with that.
the super wal-mart by me in the upstate NY area does not carry walnut bedding. i found mine at petsmart.
