    Update:

Still working on this design & hashing things out. We are currently considering the option of three different nose diameters that are paired with three different band diameters. This may cover rifles with different sizes of bore diameter and groove diameter. If a mold maker is willing to do this type of option it would allow a buyer to specifly nose and band dimensions that would work better in their own rifle.

Keep your fingers crossed & stay tuned.

It may be to late to add anything here but I have a few very nice to excellent 7mm Mausers that I can check. I have a 1893, 1895 and 1912 Chilean long rifles. I also have a fairly nice 1894 Brazilian I could check.

Will this be a flat nose boolit that could be used for hunting or just a long range ram knocker?

Just to add some info, NOE has a 7mm in the works that can be cut to .288 for the older & bigger bores. It's a group buy set for something like Sept or Oct. Just FYI.

Sorry it took so long to respond with an update. Been out of town Turkey hunting with my oldest son.

Anyway, here's where we are at this time with the design and options:

As you can see, we did decide to go with a bore riding design. Also, one of our goals was to design a boolit that would fit rifle throats ranging from .300" to .500" long in order to accomodate as many rifles as possible.

I hope that this satisfies those who are curious as to what's been going on with this idea. However, nothing is set in stone at this time.

None the less, I'd still like to hear what you all think about our efforts thus far.

Smokepole50: One thing you could do to help is check the bore size, throat length, and land dimensions front & back on all of your rifles; to see how well they would work with the three size options listed above.

For those that may be interested in the above design, here is a little back-round on the idea we have worked with. Larry Gibson provided us some samples to work off of. This design is "loosely" based on the older RCBS design. We eliminated one band groove because the original had more lube capacity than is really needed with our newer lubes. Also the nose bore rider is designed to very slightly engrave in the rifling to improve accuracy by eliminating an unsupported nose. The groove closest to the nose is basically a "dirt groove" to pick up some of the foulings left by earlier shots. We arrived at the diameters Matt mentioned by slugging our own rifles as well as information provided to date by others. To keep things easier for the mold maker we decided paired dimensions for the bore/groove diameters would be the best bet. We'd appreciate thoughts from others, but bear in mind, we don't expect to design a mold by committee.

Our intension is to design a good general purpose boolit that will work for most hunting and target situations with these old Mausers. I really don't see many more options being offered for the sake of simplicity for the mold maker.

    Update -

I have a Group Buy interest thread started on this design. We will not be using Ballisti-Cast to produce these molds. These molds will be cut by Josh at A.C.E.

Also, there will be four different paired band/nose diameter options.
