My family has a history of buying stuff you don't want for the packaging:
My late father spent his professional life in the dairy business, most of it in marketing/packaging. Every time we went in a store with an ice cream case, he would inspect the packaging of stuff, I assume to see what competitor had the contract. We frequently got ice cream treats so dad could have the wrapper.

Hmm.... let's see:
BJ's has house brand dog biscuits in a big screw top container. Bruce doesn't care, as long as he gets a biscuit for being a good boy.
My sister works at the state range, I'll get ammo boxes and the odd bit of lead every now and then from her.
I always check out the trash bin for volunteers to enhance my ammo box collection.
As long as I'm only partaking for personal consumption and not resale, the gun club turns a blind eye towards relieving the backstop of some of its burden.
This afternoon, I actually considered painting my ingots....
.... Then I realized the level of insanity of that.
Yes, I had visions of painting each one a different color. Like lead cupcake Easter eggs.
This morning, I placed the colors slugs on the "steps" of the pyramid of ingots. Then I realised I was just like a little kid playing with his 'stacking blocks'. haha
Yea.... I guess I'm hooked alright.
It sounds to me like you guys could use some "percussive therapy". Works for me at least until the next time

Or when you "have to" buy the gun to shoot the reloaded ammunition you reloaded with the brass you scrounged and you don't own that caliber of weapon.
Yup, been there and done it.
The disease is in full effect

When you buy a rifle in a caliber that is so obsolete the factories have not made ammo for it in about 60 years, only because you KNOW that SOMEHOW you can make ammo for it and get it firing again, and I did. 35 Newton.
You buy a mold and die set for a caliber you don't (and probably never will) own a firearm that uses that caliber, only because 3 of your friends do own pistols in the caliber and can't find ammo anywhere. 8mm Nambu (WWII Japanese military pistol). Actually, to make the correct conversion of 357 Sig brass into 8mm Nambu, I also bought a set of 41 Long Colt dies. Now, is there a 41 LC pistol in my future?? Or even a Nambu??
With your assortment of molds and brass calibers, you create ammo configurations that most likely have never been offered by the factories just for the "awwww, gee, isn't that cute" factor? 32 S&W (the original short case) with a Lyman 313492 boolit (85 gr. WC) poking out of it - for a friend who has just acquired a new-to-him early S&W top break revolver. He is a "32 enthusiast" and I had to help him celebrate his new "find".

A friend of mine has an odd Japanese rifle that he can't find ammo for. Apparently it's a pretty rare unit made for somebody pretty high up in the government. All the rifles like it have "some kind" of mark, and this one doesn't, making its value well into the four figure range. It's been awhile since i've heard the story, but your comment about the WWII Jap military pistol reminded me of it.
When you spend 30 minutes on Google looking at images of lead ingots, like it's some kind of pornography or something.
I was watching a video of soldiers firing an artillery piece at Arlington Cemetery.
Didn't say what they were honoring., but a thought crossed may mind when the brass was being ejected.
How big of a tumbler I would need to clean that brass.😂😂

I have my wife trained. Whenever she empties a container with a lid, she asks if I can use it in the reloading room.
Ya, that'd funny.

This is my favorite container for brass . I used to get these out of the trash at the local Car Wash . I use the Folgers cans as well as the Maxwell House cans with the handle for cast bullets and round balls .

Check behind restaurants, school cafeterias, buffet establishments etc......in the recycle trash bins. Great source and no cost.afish4570
When I managed a restaurant, I found many useful items for my casting/reloading adventures. Take my word for it, a one gallon screw top jug full of cast .44's is heavy! Thankfully toes heal.
