Hey Guys,

Anyone load 454 Casull? I just got one and being the recoil junky that I am I'd like to wear it out pretty quick! I loaded some 260 JFP at 1550 but I want to load some heavier bullets and lead bullets. I have some 300 LSWC. Do I have to have a gas check for lead loads? Anyone have good powder loads for 300 and 325 jacketed and lead?

Any help or ideas will be appreciated. The gun is a Taurus raging bull (8 3/8" ported)

Welcome to the Asylum, Thrasher! Be advised, you start shooting that lead stuff and you'll become addicted!;)

After firing my Brother's new S&W Model 29 with 8 3/8" barrel, one handed I should add, I went back to my .45s and .44 Specials.:) My wrist thanks me for that!;) So I'm not much help for you regarding loads for the Casull.

I'll bet the porting helps to maintain control, though, and allow quicker follow-up shots. Hang around and someone a lot smarter than me will come by and help.

Or you could try over at Castboolits.com, or something like that. Just Google "Cast Boolits" and you'll find it.

Do you plan to hunt with that rig? A good buddy of mine tried using his Colt Anaconda in .44 Mag on deer in Colorado. I guess he hadn't practiced enough as he wasn't able to hit the only one I saw him shoot at.

I might try and hunt a deer with it but mostly I just like shooting big guns...I broke a S&W 29 from shooting 1000s of hot loads, sheared the trigger bar right off the frame (Shameless plug: S&W fixed it for free, even paid shipping) I've shot 44's for years...I currently have a 629 and a Redhawk...this 454 should be pretty cool...with the long comp barrel the 260s feel like a hot 44 in a 4 inch...I havent gotten any heavies (325 gr) yet but I'm working on it.

I have three .454 handguns and a Puma lever gun, this one is my Taurus.

I shoot mostly home cast 310 to 330 grain gas checked boolits ahead of a healthy dose of Lil'Gun.

Thrasher,
If your a reciol junky get rid of your Rageing Bull for they are more like RAGEING PUSSY CATS. When I got mine I though that I had screwed up my reloads because the recoil was so lite. With 300 gn. bullets at 1,500 fps. recoil was less than my .44 mag. with 240 gn. cast bullets at 950 fps. Now my Ruger Red Hawk will let you know it`s there, especially if I take the scope off of it. In fact it hit your hand harder than eather on my 500 S&W`s pushing 440 gn. bullets to the max.
