What the heck...

1) I agree with .30-'06 in a bolt gun. Adequate for anything in North America with the right load.

2) Instead of the .223 I'll go with a 7.62x39 semi-auto.

3) .22 rimfire in...

If a .222 Rem mag will work, I may have a spare lying around here somewhere.

Most of my shooters are ex-military so I don't go for gilt-edge accuracy.

I do use a neck turner (Lyman) after sizing down cases like .348 Winchester to 8mm Lebel and .45-70 to 8x52R Siamese.

The original cavalry carbines were made with cut-off rifle barrels. Unfortunately the Carcano rifles had a gain-twist rifling and when shortened to carbine length the twist was too slow to stabilize...

I haunt gun shows for old Weaver scopes.

My Savage 110 has an old V8 scope with external adjustments; my Savage MkII .22 has a K2.5; my sporterized Lee-Enfield (I didn't do it!!!) has a K4...
