Default 22-250 loads with 55 gr. hornady V-max

    Happy New Year Everyone!
I have a Rem. 700 BDL, med. barrel and am having a problem getting the 55 gr. Horn. V-max bullets to group. I tried two Hodgdon powders H-322 & H-380, H-380 works great with other bullets. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the 55 gr. V-max bullets??

All I have ever shot is 55 grainer but I am old fashion and use 4064 powder. I have had great success with it.

    Good Luck Ken.

I'd try another powder or two before making any decisions about the bullet. You never know. 3031 is another really good choice for the .22-250 with 55gr bullets, as is RL7. My rifles tend to do better with Sierras, and some rifles much prefer plain based bullets over boat tails. Every barrel is different, though. Feed it a good selection of bullets and powders and see what its opinions are.
If I can see it, I can hit it. Now, where did I put my glasses?

All are good choices. My 700 likes Varget so I load it.
Remember, the gereat thing about reloading is there are so many choices and recipes to choose from. Keep experimenting and sooner or later you will find that perfect combination for your rifle.
Good luck and keep us posted with your progress.

I just shoot 223 AI nowadays but a good shooting buddy has a Rem 700 VSSF and he settled on H-380 with his - I don't know the exact load but he sure kills a bunch of prairie dogs ! It's a 1:12 twist barrel correct ?

Just for a little different load. I shoot a 22-250rem Savage mod. 12 with 12 twist 26inch barrel. She likes 52 gr berger MGV on top of 39 gr AA 4350.This is just over 3700 fps. Now I have a very comparable 55 gr Blitz King load that is on top of 32.5 gr IMR 8208XBR Accurate load I just have not chronograph'd it yet. Like many others have stated try many and you will find one that your rifle likes best.
It aint a sin to be stupid ,,,,but its awful unhandy

33 GRS of IMR 3031 @ 100 yds three shots will cover a dime.
