    Wink Which would you have?

I've seen this asked before with interesting and informative results.

If you could only have 6 guns. What would they be and why?

No politics please. Just what and why you would have.
I guess should start the roll since I'm the one that asked.

    1. The 30-06 seems to be the basic and a good cartridge to experiment with. This one in bolt action.
    2. I hear good things about the 223. It would be in semi auto of course.
    3. A lever action 22 that takes short, long, and long rifle. This is the fun gun. Everybody loves a lever action.
    4. 22 auto pistol. One that looks as close a possible to a German Luger. To go along with the 22 rifle.
    5. The 500 S&W. For the big bang. In double action, I admire the guys that would rather have a single action.
    6. For defense, I hope I never need to, the 40 S&W.

This is a tough choice. I want more than this.
So tag, it's your turn. Tell me what you would want.

    What the heck...

    1) I agree with .30-'06 in a bolt gun. Adequate for anything in North America with the right load.

    2) Instead of the .223 I'll go with a 7.62x39 semi-auto.

    3) .22 rimfire in a bolt gun.

    4) M1911A1 .45 ACP for self defense.

    5) 12 ga. pump shotgun.

    6) .50 caliber flintlock...I can make the powder, balls, and flints if I had to.

    Ok here goes

    (1) .22 hornet as it can be reloaded & does the work of a .22lr /22mag & handle small to medium game
    (2) .257 to handle most thin skinned animals I'm going to encounter

    (3) .308 Just for the sake of having a cal that will handle most applications & will feed through any action with out haveing a long action .

    (4) 45-70 Why ? cause I love the old Pumkin roller !

(5 ) .22 Ruger Single six convertable ,pure & simple ,two handguns in one & really ruggered

    (6) 12g SXS once again simple & ruggered not really fussed on what you feed it !

    Deano-
If I had to cull the collection down to six, I'd probably go with these:

    1) .375 H&H-Win Mod 70 stainless- it's big enough for up here in Alaska, big enough for Africa if I ever make it there and down-loaded with cast 250 gr I wouldn't feel too 'over-gunned' even for deer

    2) 12 ga auto-Rem Mod 1100-this one gets the most use of all of my guns, everything from grouse to geese. It fits me as well as my more expensive shotguns and I don't have to worry about dinging it up. I do carry a couple of 'O' rings in with my license; I've never needed them, just don't want to end up with a single shot out in the duck blind.

    3) .222/20ga-Sav Mod 24-great pickup gun, this one shoots as well as my .22-250, crappy trigger & all. I probably should've gotten this in .223, but I found the .222 first.

    4) .44 Mag-Ruger RH-worn nearly constantly all summer, mainly to discourage Mr. Bear should he decide that I am an a la carte item.

    5) .45 ACP-Kimber-self-defense

    6) .32 H&R-Ruger Single Six-I have two, if I had one in .22LR/WRM I would agree with 'Old Bushman', but mine are both .32's

I do agree with everyone's comments on the .30-06, and I have one, but if I had to use only one I would take the H&H hands down.

Hmmm.... I've really had to think about this one. My first reaction was "6 guns? Hell, I've got at least 8 Mausers, never mind the fun guns!" But then I figured I could come up with a basic list. I decided not to cheat and put down the Contender more than once.
    1. Rem 870, mine is in 20ga and I'm happy with it. Good for the upland birds and the midnight prowlers.
    2. Bolt action .308. Ammo is everywhere & I also prefer the shorter action for carrying around. Mine is a Rem 788. With bullets from 100-200gr, it will keep me fed and the garden protected.
    3. Ruger 10/22. (I think very highly of the Ruger Mk II pistol also, but the rifle is more versatile.)
    4. Glock 23. (I'm heading towards a 31 as I really want a .45 carry gun.)
    5. T/C Contender in .30 Herrett. (But that would vary depending on what I wanted to hunt with it - the Herrett is fine for deer and smaller game. We'll just pretend not to think about the dozen other pistol and carbine barrels in the safe. )
If I can see it, I can hit it. Now, where did I put my glasses?

    1. Yep. 30-06
    2. 1911 in 45 auto
    3. 222 in Rem. 722
4.22 semi auto rifle (have a marlin in stainless)
5.22 semi auto pistol (have Ruger)
    6.12 ga. (have mod. 1100)
I could livewith these, but would not like the limit.

    44 Mag: the do-everything handgun caliber;
    45 Auto: 1911 of course, I'm sentimental;
    9 luger: I'm also cheap and it's better than the 22 with more interesting guns;
    9,3x62: (or x64 in Africa) the do-everything rifle calibers, and metric rules ;
308: am I being cheap again?
12 gauge: for close quarter insurance.

Man it is tough to come up with just six but I will give it a try.

    1. 204 Ruger in a Browning A bolt varming staulker. Accurate, almost no recoil, and blows the heck out of varments.

    2. 270 WSM in a Tika T3 SS synthetic. Good for deer, elk, etc. Just a really accurate rifle. I am a big fan of Tika rifles.

    3. 22 Hornet in a CZ 527 full stock. Clasic looking gun that really shoots. Fun to reload and good for those short range Varments.

4.12 Gage in a Beneli Nova pump shotgun. Gets the job done on birds or cyotes with buck shot.

    5. 223 WSSM in a Cooper Arms Montans Varminter. Has a 8.5 to 25 VXIII LR on it. Paid for it and it is a shooter even though it is only a single shot. So I better keep it around. I can read pop cans at 300 yards and hit them most of the time.

    6. 243 in a savage. Plain jane gun that I would trust my life to. Good for about anything you want to shoot in Nebraska. Deer or varmint it will get the job done.

22-common and is more useful than you think. Could serve as coinage in a barter society. Everybody has one.

308-close enough to the good ole' 06' and available in military pattern semi-autos with cheap mil-surp ammo. Homeland security is a nation of riflemen and this cartridge is hard to beat.

416 Rem- good for medium sized and giant beasts on the planet and busting up other things if necessary.

300 Win-reach out and touch someone...close or far. Is accurate, common and load data is well dialed in.

44 Mag-if I need one gun for close up to handle a variety of scenarios, it's hard to beat.
Ammo is everywhere and almost everybody has one.

10mm auto-can be loaded to 40 S&W specs or full power. Can be tailored to self-defense, targets or hunting loads. Some 10mm pistols merely require only a barrel swap to shoot 40 S&W, 357 Sig or 9x25...how cool is that?
Sport shooting and hunting exist by virtue of the mil-spec battle rifle, not vice versa.

    Ok here we go......

    1. 257 roberts, bolt action, because it's easy to load for, and it can flop a deer hard.

    2. 270 winchester, bolt action, it's mild recoiling, and is very flat shooting.

    3. 338 win mag, bolt action, because it can take down the largest animals in north america.

    4. 22, ruger 10/22, for fun.

    5. 20 guage, side by side cz, because it's mild recoiling and great for upland game birds.

    6. 300 win mag, bolt action, because it hits hard, and can reach way out there.

    Talking

1). 300 WSM - long range for big critters

2). 280 Rem - for everything in between

3). 22-250 Rem great varmint rifle caliber and it shoots so good.

4). 223 Rem in the Bushmaster AR-15. What a tackdriver and a versatile self defense carbine.

5). 12 gauge 3 1/2 inch semiauto shotgun. (for waterfowling and upland birds)

6). Either a 40 SW/or a 45 ACP auto pistol. You cannot go wrong with either one!

I too don`t like being restricted to just 6 firearms. But I would stake my life on the guns on this list.
